Owens

LaDarius Owens has delayed his decision. He was set to announce this week but no longer will. He says he has prayed and still is not sure. He will now probably wait until after his senior season.

  2. That is bad news for us. Guess that trip to amr got to him a little. He does realize that bamr has 14 scholarship LB for 4 spots.

  3. Don't think there will be room for Him.Let Him play games

  5. I agree with the previous post

  6. I'm sure that Willis and company are getting to him about Chizik's record and all that garbage, once our coaches prove themselves, their recruiting efforts will pay off even more.

  7. Promise this, Our LB will be more discipled and stay in postition better under Roof than they were under Willis.

  8. There will be room for him. Like I stated in a previous thread. LO loves Auburn but he's concerned about the direction of the program. His uncle is advising him to make his decision with his head not his heart. Saban has sold him on the 3-4 and apparently LO is not afraid of competition. If we have a good season, LO will be in orange & blue.

  9. This can't be good. I hope Michael Dyer commits soon to boost our morale.

  10. Beav, thanks for keeping us posted.

  11. According to A. Coleman, AU will be running alot of the 3 - 4 as well under Roof....

  12. It is the right thing to do if he isn't sure. As a fan I want him commited yesterday, but I can't fault his caution.

    ReplyDelete
  13. True, cant fault his caution.

I dont think we have the personnel to run a 3-4 anytime soon.

  14. There's one thing about it; if he is not committed to us, then he is obviously not committed to "them" either. Should stop a lot of that "we are stealin another one" bullshit that has been going on forever. Yes, it is nice to reel in a "legacy," but if we don't, so what!! As long as we get the best man for the position. I could care less where they come from or who their family is or was. If you want to be with us great, if not, move on.

  15. This is a good thing. I was sure he was going to Bama when he sets the announcement date after visiting them and BOL is the only service trumpeting the event. I figured the only way Auburn gets back in it is if the schedule changed from what BOL was reporting (either it changed or Bama was pressuring the schedule and LO wasn't completely comfortable, and BOL got the cart before the horse). Well, the schedule changed, so I figure somebody from Auburn got to him... just reading between the lines. I think Auburn just dodged a bullet.

  16. Now that is a very interesting perspective Anon 8:34pm! Maybe it will stop some of our fans from jumping off the cliff.

You have to recruit differently for a base 3-4 than you do for a 4-3. Chizik and Roof will be running a base 4-3. However, they will have situations where they run a 3-4 or even a 3-3.

All teams alter their defensive formations based on what the offense shows. But you recruit specific players for your base defense.

LO deciding on Fri was a sign that he favored AU. He has been rumored to favor Aub for months so the early decision signaled that he was ready to end the suspense and declare for Aub. Putting it off revealed that he has a more difficult decision to make.

BOL is a non factor because they have broken the past 2 updates on LO. The fact that he wants to see how Aub and Bama do this season puts more pressure on Aub to do well.

  18. On Alabama's ESPN Website they even admitted he was probably going to AU. As they said that we would be a surprise if he ended up in Tuscaloosa. The delay is bad for AU in that it allows not only Alabama, but teams like LSU, Tennessee, FSU more time to recuirt him.

  19. yea i'm hearing that our coaches told him to hold off on the announcement because they don't want everybody to commit at once. so apparently we will be having a good week!

    ReplyDelete
  20. He's announcing after the football season. Exactly how is that in Chizik's plans?

    ReplyDelete
  21. Nevermind. I found GoCrazy's "source". AUSportTalk has a convenient answer for every recruiting twist and turn. Corey Grant was a lock for AU. Just ask AUSportTalk. You really are in the know, GoCrazy.

    ReplyDelete
  22. If players are waiting to see what type of season we have before they commit, this could be bad for us. I hope, like all AU fans do, that our season will not be as grim as predicted, but I am cautiously optomistic. I wish the best for LO and hope he comes to AU, but I don't want to miss out on quality players while waiting for him to decide. War Damn Eagle!!!

    ReplyDelete
  23. I never said I was in the know. and also sportTalk did not say Grant was an AU lock, he actually said he was probably going to bama like everybody else. I never claimed that I personally heard the inside info, just passing along what i've read. Take it or leave it.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I would have to agree with GoCrazyAuburn. SportTalk did not say Grant was going to AU. If you want to get technical this is exactly what he said..."I have heard from several people close to him today that say he is committing to Turdville. Who knows but that is what I am hearing."

I would have to say in the time I have been tracking AU recruiting SportTalk is typically correct. He also said not to freak out by the LO move date. It is all part of the process!

    ReplyDelete
  25. Well as for this situation let the cards fall where they may. In the end though I firmly believe that LO will be Au's. I'm more worried about what DLo is going to do and not LO at the moment.

Why was that a sign he favored AU? I know he likes AU, that's clear, but he also has Bama in the picture. I know a lot of Auburn people were saying they felt good about him going to Auburn, but it seemed all that good feeling was coming from info gathered before his Bama visit. I assumed something got to him on the Bama visit (maybe $$$), and suddenly he was setting an announcement time. Didn't he say he was visiting Mss St after Tuscaloosa? But suddenly he's not going to Miss St. That stinks to high heaven. And there is no way anyone can convince me that the BOL having announcement info on a recruit while the Auburn services won't touch it is a good thing for Auburn. It seemed pretty clear to me that the folks at the BOL thought Bama was getting him when they ran that story. I was just hoping they were wrong (and them being wrong about the schedule is the surest sign of them being wrong about other expectations).

Add to that a couple of "insiders" (whatever you think of those) saying they were surprised at the early announcement schedule since they "heard" LO wasn't going to announce until later. Plus the Friday announcement would have been a great Bama counter-punch to all the stuff thats supposed to go down this week for Auburn (I have no idea, just what the rumors suggest). Folks, what we got right here is an all out recruiting battle that Auburn almost lost. Owens himself will have to go on the record to make me believe differently.

Also, stop all this foolish talk about recruits waiting to see what kind of season we have. That has nothing to do with it. Didn't Saban's first #1 class come on the heels of the LaMo debacle? What about Zook's recruiting at FL? It makes sense to our adult minds that a recruit would gather all the information possible before making a decision, but the reality is that even we adults make a lot of emotional decisions, and that goes triple for adolescents.

Love the blog Beave. Sorry to make it my pulpit.

  29. I should stop posting anonymously, but frankly I'm embarrassed I care this much about recruiting. Reading my 9:35 post I realize that I've fallen into the deep end, acting like I know stuff when I'm as clueless as most of you. The problem is that I love Auburn football, and I know, as most of you do, that recruiting matters... so I watch it closely and read the tea leaves. So my completely uninformed guesses are that:
    1. The staff is no longer recruiting running backs... meaning they have who they want. If AU gets a visit from some new big time back then I'll have to reconsider that. The fact that we were recruiting Corey Grant as a slot receiver is very telling.
    2. The staff uses silent commits and other strategies to influence the media buzz. I feel as confident as someone who knows nothing can be that Rival's commit list is shorter than Chizik's commit list.
    3. That so far the only commits who are not our staff's first choice are McNeal and maybe Slade. Both of these guys look like fall back plans. Remember, I know nothing, just inferring some stuff from the course of events that led to their commitment. I'm sure the staff likes those guys, but just saying they weren't 1st on the wish list. I think Howard showed up on the wish list late, but it "felt" like they really wanted him once he was on the radar.
    4. the flip side is that most, if not all the current commits are exactly what this staff wants. It will reflect directly on our staff's talent evaluation if any of these guys don't pan out. (looking at the other offers most of these guys have, it seems a safe bet that our staff knows what they are doing).
    5. When Chizik says he recruits the a certain type of person, he's really saying something. These kids look extremely solid, both in character and academics, but only time will tell. I for one will be glad to move out of the shadow of the NCAA clearing house.

    Your thoughts, Beaver?

  34. The fact he didn`t announce may be a good indicator for Auburn. He is probably going to wait to see how the season shapes up.If he were going to Alabama,he would not wait.

  35. By the way for the people that said that none of the Auburn sites were going to cover his announcement, The Auburn site on Scout was going to cover it. Like it matters now though.
