Big O-Lineman Commits

Offensive line recruiting has started to get thin but Auburn picked up its second lineman for the 2010 class. Chad Slade committed Saturday. Slade justed picked up his offer a couple of days ago.
Slade is 6 foot 6, 316 lbs. He is from Moody, AL and is cousin of former AU running back Stacy Danley. He had offers from Auburn, Mississippi State and Arkansas State.

He is currently unranked by Rivals and Scout. He has a 3.0 GPA, benches 335 and squats 525.

  1. Great pick-up for us Beaver!! Is very underrated and will be a good player for us. I know you have been busy, but do you still feel the same about Owens? Or have you heard anything new? Thanks.

  5. I do not know if Slade is underrated. He has not been evaluated yet but almost any of the major three sites so I could not tell ya! I have heard little about him.

  6. ill take all the o-linemen we can get. kid is gifted with size. hopefully grimes can coach him up and mold him into a future starter.

  7. yea, he is a basketball standout too. With that size it means he is still very athletic. Even if he is a bit raw of an offensive lineman, i see him working into a nice lineman. A lot like Ben Grubbs

  9. Thanks Beaver,

Looks like you site has become infested with the bamr cockroaches. Probably some of my fault, I was telling people about this great site on al.com. But I wanted other AU fans to know about this place. Should have known the cockroaches would follow also.

  10. I don't doubt that this kid is a good football player and may turn out to be very good, but I still wonder WHY a school like Auburn cannot seem to attract top notch linemen like the Bammers, Georgia, UT and others! If quick playing time at a good school were a prerequisite, it seems illogical that so many would go elsewhere. Just wondering!

  11. Anon @ 12:51-

Could be the system that we run. Not everybody what to play in a hurry-up no-huddle O. It kinda hard on the Oline especially. But these coaches know what they are doing. They can scout talent. Slade was a camp standout that earned himself an offer. He will make a good OG for us.

  13. Ben Grubbs is 6'2 to 6'3 and started out as a 250lb defensive lineman that we later converted to guard after we packed the weight on him. Slade is 6'6 315lbs and will play tackle.

How in the world is Slade alot like Ben Grubbs???

  14. Grubbs also was a good basketball player and was just all around athletic, which is what i'm hearing about this kid. yes i know he is a lot bigger already but i'm trying to convey the point that they both move well and can be really good pulling linemen.

  15. Also a friend of mine that lives in Moody just informed me that up until this past season he played D-line as well.

  16. Bammers are already having a field day with this commit.

i could care less. we need big boys on the line. and if he is as good an athlete as he appears he should be able to be coached up pretty nicely.

  17. yea, one bama was trying to convince me this guy was garbage because he was rated a 40 espn.....regardless to say I let him in on the fact that that is the ranking players get before they have been evaluated.

  18. GoCrazy- That is the same idiot fanbase that made fun of Bolonomo for being a 1star on scout. 1star on scout means he has not been ranked, same as N/R on rivals. AU blogger JayGTate.com doesnt even know this information. Slade will be a great guard for AU.
