Know A Signee: Josh Jackson

  • Will wear number 99
  • Two star defensive tackle on Rivals and Scout. Ranked the 94th DT by Scout.com. ESPN.com rated him 74/100 and ranked him the 84th best defensive tackle.
  • Gainesville, Georgia (Gainesville High School)
  • Born: November 13, 1990
  • Committed: 2/3/2009
  • 6'2", 260 lbs., 5.0 sec 40 yard dash
  • 2008 stats: had 99 tackles and 16 sacks for a team that allowed 12 points per game. Also picked off a pass and returned it for a 50 yard touchdown and returned a fumble for a touchdown. 2007 stats: 87 tackles, 5 sacks and one interception.
  • Named to 3A All-State First Team by GSWA. Honorable mention all state by the Atanta Journal Constitution. Named to the 7A/B-AAA All Region First Team. Participated in the Georgia North-South All Star game. Was set to participate in the Down Under All Star game in Australia.
  • Had offers from Auburn, Ole Miss, Arkansas, N.C. State, Toledo and UMASS.
  • Did not take an official visit until April 21 of this year.
  • Did not need his official to commit to Auburn because the offer was what he was waiting on. Has questionable size to play defensive tackle and could end up at defensive end. Was set to play 1AA until Coach Rocker offered him at Auburn. Rocker was his deciding factor. Many schools were turned off by his test scores.
  • Remains at home awaiting confirmation from the NCAA Cl.earinghouse. Says he feels optimistic he will qualify and move to Auburn by August 3rd or 4th.

  1. OK, first obvious question here: Why the heck was he going to play 1AA if all of those other offers were legit?

  2. This is a kid on which we have to trust Coach Rocker's judgement. If Coach Rocker thinks he is good enough to play for AU, then who am I to question him?
