Offensive Line Help On The Way?

Auburn lost out on Aubrey Phillips a few days before signing day. Now we may have him after all. Rumors swirled that Phillips showed up to FSU overweight. He now has been released from his scholarship. He visited Auburn today and may stay overnight. He says he will decide tomorrow whether he will go to Auburn, Alabama or Arkansas.

  1. I'm pretty sure he is coming to us. He isn't going to visit the other 2 schools and I don't know if he even has a commitable offer from either one of those schools at this point.

  2. Beaver-
Will Phillips have to sit out the 2009 season. or can he push McCain for playing tme at RT?

  3. I believe he has to sit. Similar to Deron Fuer(sp?) last year. Kind of ideal since they'll redshirt him.

  4. Hey, we'll take good Offensive Linemen any way we can get them other than paying. I'll bet Chizik will slim him down into a mean, lean fighting machine if he comes.

  5. Replying to my own post. Al.com says he'd be eligible. I wander if that's because he hasn't actually practiced with FSU and they released him from his scholarship. I certainly want to know why he was released.

  6. I have seen elsewhere that he showed up around 340 lbs. I do not know for sure if that is true.

  7. let's not get our hopes up for a second time. Take a wait and see approach.

  8. He will be eligable to play this year if he were to sign.

  9. It's clear that he's going to Auburn unless there is an underlying story that we don't know about. Stranger things have happened, keep that in mind.

In any case, whether he is out of shape isn't a huge deal. In a lot of cases OL recruits are redshirted anyways. If he has eligibility, I wouldn't mind seeing him redshirted so he can work on learning the offense and work on getting back in shape with Yox. If he's not eligible, he's got a year to work with Yox aswell.

We know what the kid can do when he's in shape so he's an obvious bonus to our program. I really hope he will be coming to the plains.

  11. Good thing AU will take the players FSU doesn't want....must be bad if FSU is turning him away....I hope we really find out what happened at FSU...we need help on the OL but we do not need a bad apple. I am sorry for assuming the worst, but usually where there's smoke, there's fire.
