My Prediction

Auburn does not win this game, Jordan Hare Stadium does. Auburn wins in a close one, 27-24. Onterio McCalebb and Ben Tate have touchdown runs.

Sunday we will look back at how wrong I was :) Just an opinion....

  2. Auburn comes out with gunz blazin'! Malzahn shows his genius and we blow this team out. Tate has a big game with a TD. Benton and Blake both have TD's! WDE! AU 38 La Tech 10

  3. 28-14 AU.

au's defense is better than 27-24, and i was tempted to go 35-14, but a few miscues that come with an entirely new coaching staff and system keep it close in the 1st half. chris todd throws for a couple of TD's and tate-mccalleb-fannin anchor the offense.

  4. REALLY don't think it's that close. While I totally agree Beaver that the atmosphere will help us ALOT, I don't think Tech can play with us for 4 quarters, especially if we hit them in the mouth early. Tech is coming in with the mindset that they can upset us like they did MSU, but that 3-2 game we played is ALL everyone in Ruston has been talking about.

But I know for a fact, they are nervous. I spoke to their TE this morning and the players are nervous. The players are talking about watching the Eagle fly. I think we move the ball against their secondary and Todd shows EVERYONE why he was one of the best QB's in the country out of high school.

Just my opinion. And I hope Sunday we can talk about how right I am. :-) WAR EAGLE!!!

  5. WAR DAMN EAGLE. Got faith in our rock solid D. Although we do have depth issues I see Bates being blitzed a lot and coming up with a HUGE sack or RB stop and the rest will be history. 28-10

  6. I am sticking with Auburn 31, LaTech 10. My unrealistic expectation is Auburn 35, LaTech 0.

  7. HAHA! NO. Ben Tate bulldozes through the middle for a pair of BIG gains. McCaleb breaks one loose and takes is to the house. CGM shows us why he chose Todd as he bombs one out to Tzach. Kodi reigns all hell from the Wildcat.. It's gonna be ugly for LA tech. 34-10. Au's defense shuts down their run and everybody feels a little bit better about our season!

  8. We shall see...I am hoping I am wrong and we do blow them out...LA Tech just scares me on top of us putting in a new offense...one of my professors today said "Anyone else have a bad feeling about this weekend?"...I just have that bad feeling..

  9. can't speak for everyone, just trying to push that bad feeling away and trust in our boys and our coaches. here is to hopin'

  10. 24-10 AU

McCalebb will bust a long run, 60-70 yrds

  11. i'm okay with your bad feeling Beav...I had a good feeling about last season so hopefully this season will be the absolute opposite.

  12. Beav...I know you are trying to lower expectations and be surprised, rather than being upset if we underperform. However, I have alot of confidence coming into this game. I think Auburn confuses the heck out of the LA Tech defense and wins big!

  13. After watching that BSU-OU abomination last night, I have to say I'm a little frightened at just how bad a supposed top 25 offense can look. OU got their first first down in the 3rd quarter! However, I was also reminded of just how awesome it is when a team lines up and runs right at the defense and plows them over for 4 yard gains all night like BSU did.

So, I think that is what we'll see from AU. Our O-line and Tate are just too big and athletic for the LaTech front to contain, but the fledgling passing game will yield some interceptions that will keep the game uncomfortably close. The wildcard is our defense. If they are as good as last year, the running game should put up enough points to win. If not, LaTech has some offensive firepower and could pull the upset.

  14. I actually have a good feeling about this weekend. All these guys have heard is how bad they are. Auburn players will come out with something to prove...I expect some miscues from the offense but I think the defense will be hunting heads and will have a few after this game.

  15. I'm excited about the game as well, but I'm concerned about the youth and lack of depth. We need to hit them hard and early and try and hang on for the win. We WILL be tested for sure.

  16. sticking with my prediction 34-21 AU. I say Tate gets two short ones, Onterio busts a long one, Todd throws one and we'll have a couple field goals thrown in for good measure. I do expect our offense to make some mistakes, thus putting our defense in a couple bad spots keeping it closer than we'd like.

  17. I am really anxious to see how well the offensive line plays. I think that is the key to the season. This offense is suposed to be "run first" spread offense. If we can't run the ball better than we did last year, it will be a LONG SEASON. If we can run the ball, it opens up the intermediate passing game.

  18. guys you are forgetting one thing, we can't look any worse than we did last year so anything is going to be an improvement.

    ReplyDelete
  19. These are the same players in last year's 3-2 thriller against MSU. Call me crazy, but I don't believe that merely changing the "offensive system" can transform a hapless, pathetic, woeful offense, into a potent, high scoring, blow-out machine.

If our offense has improved that much, it will because of the system AND because they have worked their butts off and have been willing to pay the price to be successful.

They are gonna have to prove to me that they have done that before I start thinking blowout.

    I hope they do.

  20. Brandon, Todd had an injured arm last year, and Kodi could not pass. Todd's arm is fixed, and Kodi is at wide receiver. Problem solved.

Our offensive linemen were told to lose weight last year. As aconsequence, they were pushed around by everybody who outweighed them by 40 pounds or more. They gained weight this year. Problem solved.

Last year's play calling was schitzophrenic. There was a distinct difference in first half and second half play calling. Their was dissention among the coaching staff and players. This year the team and staff are unified. Problems solved.

Our kickers screwed up every conceivable way last year. Their heads are straightened out this year. Problem solved.

Our OL (no names, all sins are forgiven going into the new season) committed ridiculous numbers of illegal motion fouls last season. We killed drives and actually moved backward for over twenty yards. I believe that problem has been solved.

This is not the same team as last year. Same players, maybe. But not the same team.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I didn't say we wouldn't improve...I just said I don't see us as a team that consistently blows people out (LaTech should have a good team).

The biggest problem I saw last year is that our blockers (excluding the OL) did not attack the defenders. If you watched bammer (or us in 2004), their guys were in the other teams face, trying to run them to the sideline. Bama's offense was very physical. Ours was not. Our players just did the whole get a hand on them and just get in their way type blocks. It seemed that every year after 2004, we became less & less physical, resulting in 2008.

You are right though, it is a new team, but it has yet to be proven if all the problems are solved. I certainly hope we see a physical offense, with better results this year. I honestly see us as a 7-8 win team.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Last year really got under my skin because I want Auburn to be known for being a physical, hard nosed, attacking, we're gonna run the football right down your throats and you're not going to be able to stop us, type of offense.

We had that a few years ago, and then last year it seemed like the roles were reversed and bammer stole our mojo....
    really got under my skin

  23. sorry for all the long posts...I think I've had too much caffeine.

Now I've got to get back to studying so I can go tailgate tomorrow!

  24. Brandon...it's a Friday night...none of this studying...Tulsa is on!

  25. Penalties and turn overs killed drives. Chalk it up to first game brain cramps. No more false start penalties, please. And hang onto the football.

    Everything else looked pretty good.

Except for the Dawgs, it looks like the SEC took care of business.

  26. The first half had me worried, otherwise I was pleased. There are a few kinks to work out, but I am confident that the coaches will take care of it.

    War Eagle!
