Sadly, yesterday former Auburn defensive coordinator and assistant head coach Paul Davis died at age 87. Davis was defensive coordinator for Shug Jordan's defensive coordinator from 1967 to 1975. Davis stayed on staff with Doug Barfield from 1975 to 1980 and returned to coach for Pat Dye's staff from 1987-1990. Davis coached seven all-americans at Auburn and coached in nine bowl games.
Davis lettered two years at Ole Miss. He is survived by two children, son, Paul E. (Rett) Davis Jr. of Livingston, Ala., and daughter Becky Gibson of Lutz, Fla. He also has two grandchildren.
Jeffcoat-Trant Funeral Home in Opelika will hold visitation on Saturday from 1 pm to 2 pm.
