Updates

  • Shon Coleman did indeed show up in Tuscaloosa for his official visit to Alabama. Coleman will also visit Miami this weekend. He has been quiet about his recruitment lately but some are starting to think he is Alabama's to lose.
  • Also visiting Miami this weekend is Jeffrey Whitaker. He will announce his decision on Monday. It is likely that Whitaker is deciding between Auburn and Georgia. I still think Whitaker signs with the Tigers.
  • Jonathan Mincy will not take any visits this weekend. He originally planned on visiting South Carolina but has decided against it.
  • All signs point to Arkansas having a slight lead for Byran Jones. Jones could make an announcement tomorrow.
  • Vic Beasley is still considering a visit to Auburn.
  • No word yet on if Markeith Ambles will visit Auburn this weekend. I believe he will and I would keep an eye on him. Auburn could definitely steal Ambles.
  • Gene Chizik will make an in-home visit to Marcus Lattimore tomorrow. South Carolina will visit him Saturday.
  • Auburn Undercover says that Lane Kiffin and Southern Cal made a late push for Joel Bonomolo but got nowhere.
  • Right now it appears D.J. Howard will not sign with Auburn but rather Kentucky or Clemson. He may visit Kentucky this weekend.

Catch Up On All Targets and Wavering Commitments

Targets:
  • Marcus Lattimore appears ready to remain silent until February 2nd. I still think he signs with Auburn.
  • Lache Seastrunk will make an announcement tomorrow. Barring a surprise, Lache is expected to choose the Oregon Ducks.
  • There were rumors that Markeith Ambles committed to Southern Cal this weekend but his father says that is not true. According to Auburn Undercover, the coaches will in-home visit Ambles tonight. He may visit Auburn this weekend. USC is the team to beat. Keep an eye on this.
  • James Stone has cancelled his visit to Auburn and will decide between Alabama and Tennessee.
  • I am expecting Damien Robinson to choose Mississippi State. I do not believe he has a committable offer from Auburn currently.
  • Corey Lemonier has eliminated Miami according to AuburnSports.com. He has already made his decision but will announce between the Tigers and the FSU Seminoles on National Signing Day. I still think he picks Auburn.
  • Jeffrey Whitaker visited Georgia this weekend but didn't strike me as blown away. I still see him picking Auburn.
  • Mike Thornton told the AJC recently that he has not eliminated Auburn but I still believe Georgia is the team to beat for him. I do not believe he has a committable offer.
  • Byran Jones visited Arkansas this weekend. As of now, he says the two teams are so even. Some moderators for Auburn sites project him to Auburn but I say it is way too close to call.
  • Darius Robinson is a new name to watch for. The four star Clemson DB commitment is rumored to have visited Auburn this weekend. He played at the same high school as Cam Newton and contacted the staff when Newton signed. Auburn could steal Robinson if he is offered.
Commitments:
  • Shon Coleman visited Arkansas and Ole Miss last weekend. He is reportedly 100% solid to Auburn according to AuburnUndercover.
  • Trovon Reed visited LSU and appears solid to Auburn. He says LSU gave him something else to consider but I believe most of Reed's interest in LSU is made up by his high school football coach.
  • Jonathan Mincy plans to visit South Carolina this weekend following the news of interest in Darius Robinson. If Auburn offers Robinson, Mincy could bolt for the Gamecocks.
  • D.J. Howard visited Clemson this weekend. He may switch considering he is likely to get a chance to play running back at Clemson. The Auburn coaching staff did not find out about the visit until he was there and were disappointed. Rumors are swirling that the staff has pulled Howard's offer but those are unconfirmed and not likely.

CB Has Auburn At Top

Anterio Sloan, the number 21 cornerback and number 3 player in the state of Arkansas, now has Auburn at the top of his list. The four star corner was previously committed to Nebraska. The other schools he is still looking at are Kentucky and Mississippi State. He has offers from Texas A&M, Hawaii and Memphis also but is waiting and hoping for an Auburn offer.

He has never been to the Plains and only knows about Auburn through a book that was sent to him. As a junior, he recorded 50 tackles, 2 sacks, one fumble recovery and five interceptions. Sloan is ranked a three star and the 24th best corner by Scout and a 78/100 by ESPN.com. Auburn already has commitments from defensive backs D.J. Howard, Jonathan Mincy and Demetruce McNeal.

Mincy Commits!

Jonathan Mincy, a top CB prospect, has become Auburn's eighth commitment of 2010. To me, Mincy looks to be very underrated. He is a three star on Rivals and Scout. Scout rates him as the 40th best corner back in the nation and Rivals rates him as the 25th best. He also had offers from LSU, Georgia Tech, Maryland, Miami, Michigan, Ole Miss, UNC, Tennessee and Vanderbilt. More to come.

Hello All

  • First off I would like to welcome my new follower which brings my grand total of followers to 6, haha.
  • If you have a Rivals subscription, you have read the War Room most likely. If not, it could be a good time to try a 7 day free trial. Bryan Matthews and Jeffrey Lee could just be blowing smoke but there was some positive information in there.
  • I will respect their requests not to spread any of the information on there however. All I will relay is that a rumor has been confirmed to me. Lache Seastrunk appears very close to having a decision even though he wanted to hold off and announce at the Army All-American game. This early decision could be very good news for Auburn.
  • I will also point out that Jonathan Mincy, LaDarius Owens and Michael Dyer could very easily all have decisions within the next month, but this has been known.
  • Jay Tate also has an interesting "mock press conference" with Luper and Trooper on his blog. Check it out here.
  • In 2012 or 2013, it appears Auburn will play Jacksonville State according to school officials.
  • Great article here about what the university is going to do with money made from the SEC television deals.
  • That is all for now. I'm driving to Atlanta for the weekend but I will keep updating the blog. Everybody have a good, safe weekend.

A Quick Couple Notes

Monday, June 8, 2009

A Few Notes

  • LaDarius Owens named his top five in order of favorites. They are: 1) Auburn, 2) LSU, 3) Alabama, 4) Tennessee, 5) Florida State
  • Jonathan Mincy also named his top five. In no particular order: LSU, Georgia, Auburn, Ohio State and Tennessee. He said that Auburn is still up there and that he feels comfortable whenever he is on the Plains.
  • Victor Beasley picked up an offer from Alabama this weekend and says he came close to committing to them. Not the best news.
  • I'm hearing rumors that, after his Thursday visit, Corey Grant returned to Auburn on Friday to watch some of the passing camps. Looks like better news for us.
  • Good news regarding Lache Seastrunk: He decided against showing up to the Texas camp this weekend like he was supposed to. Apparently he was not too interested in giving an interview to Texas' Rivals site either.
  • Make sure you come back around 5:35 to see Jawara White's decision.

School's Out For Summer

Ah, spent the whole day at the pool doing nothing.  First day of summer.  Maybe I will see some of you downtown tonight.
  • 2009 signee Anthony Gulley says he may also play baseball at Auburn.  He may try out for the team.  He is currently hitting .494 on this baseball season.
  • One of the top defensive ends in the nation, four star J.C. Copeland, named Auburn as his leader.  He does not plan on committing any time soon.
  • Jonathan Mincy picked up an offer from Miami yesterday.
  • Anthony Wilson says that LSU is his favorite school.
  • JUCO offensive lineman John Cullen has named Auburn as his favorite.

Monday Night Notes

  • After the first day of the coaching staff's self described "prowl", recruits have responded positively.
  • Auburn visited Blount High School in Mobile.  Contact between athletes and coaches is limited to a "Hi" right now but the presence was felt according to Blount's head coach.  Blount is the school of four star Jarrick Williams.
  • Other schools visited Monday included Vigor High School, Williamson High School, Davidson High School and Theodore High School.  At Williamson, Barry James says the "prowl" made him feel special.  One other target was Davidson defensive tackle Pat McNeil.  McNeil is the younger brother of injured safety Mike McNeil.
  • C.J. Moseley was also impressed by the seven man visit to Theodore High School.
  • Prattville athlete Sam Gibson visited Auburn this weekend.
  • Jonathan Mincy has named his top three as Auburn, Georgia and Tennessee.
  • Tank Sessions visited Auburn this weekend.  He included Auburn in his top five along with Georgia, Ole Miss, Florida State and Oregon.  If he picks up a visit from UGA I see him picking them.
  • Corey Crawford enjoyed the "environment" on his visit this weekend.

Early Monday Notes

  • More articles have been written regarding Marcus Lattimore's visit.  Lattimore told SCVarsity.com that not only is Auburn number one, but they also have a "big lead".
  • Offensive tackle recruit Eric Mack was in Tuscaloosa for Alabama's spring game this weekend.  He did say he has Auburn "very high" and wants to return to the Plains very soon.
  • LaDarius Owens was also in Tuscaloosa.  He now lists his top three as Auburn, Alabama and LSU.  He still has not decided if he will commit in the spring or hold out.
  • Jonathan Mincy has listed his top three now as Tennessee, Auburn and Georgia.  He brought his mom for a visit to Auburn last week.  He was in Tennessee this weekend.
  • Four star defensive end Anthony Williams took in Georgia Tech's spring game this weekend.  Williams has named Auburn and Tech as his top two.  He will attend the NIKE Camp this weekend.
  • Commitment Jake Holland was at the Scout.com Southeast Elite Camp Sunday in Tuscaloosa.
  • I've seen our new commitment's name spelled Shon, Shun and Shalon so I am trying to sort out which he goes by right now.
  • The coaching staff gave interviews Sunday.  Nothing surprising came out of those.  Chizik said he needs more than 15 practices to decide his starting quarterback but he does not want it to eat too far into fall practice.  Ted Roof named Craig Stevens as the top defender for the spring.

Easter Sunday Brings Good News

Hey all. I finally have my computer back and so will be able to update regularly again. Hopefully everyone is having a good Easter weekend and taking in some Masters (what a day by Phil so far today) and maybe some Braves-Nationals. Here's a few notes I've got for now and I will probably update later tonight:
  • I'm hearing rumors that five star running back Lache Seastrunk was "blown away" with his visit to Auburn. He was very impressed and I feel Auburn made great strides with him this weekend. He told AuburnUndercover it was the "best visit I've had in my entire life".
  • Mike McNeil's injury is a break of his shin, six inches above the ankle. He will wear a boot for 6-8 weeks until it is healed. He will be full speed by July.
  • Reports about Anthony Williams' visit have come back positive. It was the four star defensive end's second visit to the Plains. He says the chemistry between he and Coach Rocker is definitely getting strong. He says he really likes Auburn and could come to the spring game this weekend although many schools have theirs this weekend.
  • Last week, Jonathan Mincy named Auburn as at the top of his list and after visiting this weekend he is standing by that but says Tennessee is also at the top. I incorrectly listed an offer from Auburn on an update earlier this week. He has an offer from Tennessee but expects one from Auburn soon.
  • More to come later tonight.

Two Wednesday Notes

  • Jonathan Mincy visited practice as I reported last night. He has called Auburn his favorite. Mincy has offers from Auburn, Tennessee, Maryland, Ole Miss and Akron.
  • A four star defensive end, Anthony Williams, has named Auburn a "good fit" for him. He says he has always been an Auburn fan. He is a part of the Rivals 250.

Tuesday Practice

Little has come out about Tuesday's practice mainly because it took place in Jordan Hare. A second scrimmage will also take place in Jordan Hare Stadium on Saturday alike to that of last Saturday. Here are a few notes though:
  • Pat Dye addressed the team on Pat Dye field before the practice. Chizik called it an eye-opener to have Dye talk to them.
  • Antoine Carter will be fine after his Sunday leg injury but remains day to day.
  • Jay Boulware stressed that he wishes for consistency in both aspects of the kicking game. He called the kicker position a "pick-'em" and that the punting job is up for grabs between Shoemaker and Durst.
  • Chizik was impressed with the improvements in the running game but said that the offense is still missing some intensity.
  • No real news out of the quarterback battle but Jay Tate seems to think Burns believes he has earned the job.
  • Other than Mack, Auburn hosted three other prospects in practice: Quantavious Leslie, Gary Robinson and Jonathan Mincy.
