Davis Skips Visit, Commits

In state athlete Chris Davis has skipped his official visit to the Plains this weekend but committed today anyways. He will play corner and return kicks. Davis comes in at commitment number 23 for the Tigers. Davis has flown under the radar by most recruiting services and has not been rated yet by Rivals nor Scout but is rated 76 out of 100 on ESPN.com and ranked the 90th best athlete. Davis also played quarterback in high school at Woodlawn in Birmingham. He also had offers from South Carolina, Kentucky, Southern Miss and UAB.

Many say he may have the most upside of any player in the state. Here is the article "Woodlawn's Chris Davis is a diamond in the rough".

  3. I was bored and was looking at the 2008 class. If PPL and Henderson never emerge from the dog house, and if Pybus is done with football then only 11 guys remain from that class... period. (I'm not giving 2008 credit for OMac, who re-signed the next year.) That's bad, but not quite as bad as I was expecting. The contributors from 2008 are Todd, D Adams, Eric Smith, and Thorpe (and maybe Bell and Winter). Its also possible Vance Smith will eventually make some noise on the O-Line and Derick Lykes on the D-Line.

Its also interesting that Scout has the 2008 class rated almost identically to our current 23 commitments. According to Scout, Chizik and crew are on par with one of Tubbs worst classes. I have some thoughts on why we know that isn't true, but will save that for the next time I'm bored.

  4. yeah..um..2008 had 1 under-armour all-american. this class has 6 and will likely sign at least 1 more.

i dont know how they'll all pan out, but this class is one of auburn's best of the last 10 years..and is in no way comparable with 08..08's class was bad then and worse now.

  5. We know Chizik wants 30 new players next year and at most can accept 33 LOI's in February (25 qualifiers + 3 non-qualifiers/greyshirts + 5 early enrollers). I'll assume they use all 33 which means 10 more commitments. I really hope Lache, Whitaker, Thornton, Mack and Lemonier are 5 of those, and since it looks like Gayden and K Adams are being heavily recruited for 2 spots, that leaves 3 commitments from others we can take before my dreams are slowly crushed. Sorry Chizik, but you've raised my expectations.

  6. 11, I wouldn't put much stock in our players being Under-armor All-Americans since Auburn is an Under-Armor account There might be some quid pro quo going on. Maybe not, but I'd need evidence it wasn't a liitle bit fixed. Since we were an Under Armor account in 2008 as well, the comparison is still valid.

It should also be pointed out that we really had to fight for all these 2010 guys. Not so much in 2008. Hopefully Tubbs will get on here and correct me if I'm wrong.

  7. like you said, we were under UA in 08 as well, not to mention last year when he had precisely zero UA all-americans. tough to say they guve us freebie all-americans. not to mention the number of ESPN 150 players we have this year as compared with years past..

i don't really understand your second point. are recruiting classes less valued because instead of duck hunting we're actually putting in the work to win?

  8. What I meant to imply was that our current commitments were coveted by other BCS teams. Meaning that if there were no stars next to their names I would suspect that this class was way better than past classes because I can't think of any player that chose between us and Troy.. maybe Slade and Delaine, and both of those guys had major teams sniffing around if the rumors were true. I think we are in total agreement that Scout has majorly wiffed on our current commitment list, but only time will tell. Rivals and ESPN love us. I hope even Scout loves us once we close.
